Our theme for August’s reflection looks at the messages the Psalms have for us. We’ll acknowledge that we are known by God, in Psalm 139, protected by him when we call his name, Psalm 116, and strengthened, Psalm 16.

* Psm 139. You have searched me Lord, and know me. / You know when I sit and when I rise; / you perceive my thoughts from afar…Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain…For you created my inmost being; / you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…

* Psm 116. I called on the name of the Lord, “save me” the Lord protects the unwary…Return to your rest my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.

* Psm. 16. Lord you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.

You have searched me Lord and know me…Return to your rest my soul, for the Lord has been good to you…You alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.

As you begin to relax now in body and mind, to slow your breathing, and enter your meditation, centering your prayer…a final word from Julian of Norwich (14th century English Mystic):

* “God of your goodness, give me yourself; for you are sufficient for me. I cannot properly ask anything less, to be worthy of you. If I were to ask less, I should always be in want. In you alone do I have all.”

Love and every blessing
