Meditation for Thursday 31st October 2024
For our meditation to be effective it is desirable that it be regular and ‘artistic’. A meditation place in our house is a suitable reminder of the importance of our daily practice and it is ‘artistic’.
Regularity of time and place is the ideal. For some this is not realistic, however it is a goal worth pursuing. Because meditation has proved itself as a vital source of growth and renewal people of all spiritual traditions and none have been meditating regularly for thousands of years. Meditation is an ‘insight’ for all ages but especially in times when life becomes challenging.
Unless we become immersed in our meditation practice, giving it a priority our practice will cease to have the authenticity that we desire. It will cease to develop, dry up and cave in on itself. We will stop meditating. If timetabling becomes stressful then we need to reassess as the very last thing we want is anything in our lives that will cause agitation. Sometimes it might require us to examine our attitude to meditation. Are we sufficiently relaxed; do we have unresolved anger, guilt and other concerns that hinder our capacity to concentrate? Working through these can be beneficial to opening the pathway to a more peaceful, joyful practice.
Our desire is that meditation will bring beauty, substance and structure to our lives and to the lives of others. Because each time we come to meditation we bring the world with all its suffering into our meditation. It’s good to be reminded that our meditation reaches-out to our neighbour; to the entire world.
