This is the first of our four Tuesday morning conversations with members of the Carmelite Family. “A still night ahead of the rising wind of dawn” This quote is an adaptation of an English translation of the first two lines of the 15th stanza of the Spiritual Canticle of Saint John of the Cross. Spiritual Reading Group: Music & the Bible with Susan Frykberg, Tues 17 May, 4.30 – 6pm

This month’s spiritual reading group with Susan Frykberg is entitled “Music and the Bible.” Susan will begin by offering texts that use musical words, from the Tanakh, the Christian Old Testament. These will then be explored from a number of different perspectives including: the meaning of the musical terms themselves;  the role of chant in the oral tradition; chanted scripture as part of liturgy.  Musical examples will be heard.  The opportunity to chant together as a group will also be offered.
